As I said, this was a wedding that we waited for with eager anticipation. As the trumpet blast, the music swelled, and they opened the doors to reveal the beautiful bride standing there, I couldn't help but sneak a peek at the groom. Justin was standing there with such pride and joy on his face. He was enamored by his beautiful bride. It reminded me of Psalm 45:11- "The king is enthralled with your beauty." This is the moment every little girl dreams of. Every girl wants to be Cinderella walking into the ball and silencing the crowd. Every little girl dreams that the prince will come ask her to dance and live happily ever after. God writes this desire on our hearts for a reason. HE thinks we are beautiful. HE- the King and Creator of all creation- desires to know and be known by us- to give us our happily ever after. As I watched Justin and Bernadette, tears came to my eyes. True beauty does that to a person.
Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body teaches that the differences between a man and a woman reveal something about the Lord. Bernadette's beauty points to the perfect beauty of God. Justin's strength and leadership demonstrate that we can trust our Heavenly Father. Their sweet innocence (so rare at a modern wedding) shows us that the Lord is pure and has good things in store for us.
And when Justin leaned in for that "Olympic kiss" (as Bern's Mom coined it so well), I started crying all over again! The Church started to laugh and even Bernadette was smiling and aware...but it was obvious that Justin only had eyes for Bernadette and had tuned the rest of us out! This was his WIFE!
Behold the beautiful bride! So in love...
Sweet Christian took his job very seriously.
Mother Mary, pray for Justin and Bernadette.
Look at that handsome best man!
The happy couple!
