Ever since I encountered birth moms from our original agency, I have understood adoption as a ministry for these girls as much as the babies. I have prayed for these women- all women in crisis pregnancies- but especially the women who will carry our babies. I have tried to focus on a different aspect of their lives every day- praying for their health, their education, their fears, their family and so on.
But seeing Catelynn's story come to life on the screen opened my eyes and heart to the unique struggles, pain and joy they face with adoption. Suddenly, I "got it". I understand so clearly now why they might desire an open adoption- and how that can be healing and life-giving. I see why sending birthday presents each year would help them feel connected, and I don't think I'm threatened by this. I can imagine building a relationship with a birth mom and wanting to send her updates.
Catelynn's story also helped prepare me for the high and varying emotions each party will feel when we meet the birth mother (parents?) and gave me a sensitivity to her heart.
Adoption. What an amazing, difficult, and loving option for everyone involved. Praise God for adopting us, calling us to care for orphans and widows (or single moms), and filling us with His Holy Spirit to provide the strength and courage to continue down this path.
We love our future birth mothers!

I love, love, love that episode and any of the ones from the following season that show her and her boyfriend too. They are so mature and selfless when deciding to choose adoption, yet real and in pain too. It is a good reminder of the courage of birthparents. How awesome that a social worker suggested it!
Yes, I love it too! The maturity of the birthcouple is truly inspiring. I keep thinking about all the teens who may watch it and also be inspired. :)
I love 16 and pregnant, most of them are train wrecks but those two in particular are awesome! I love them! ;)
That show ripped my heart out. I had Emma watch it as well, to think about the consequences of such actions.
I love you both so much and will also pray for your birth mothers. You are Jaris will be phenomenal parents.
Wow, Lauren! Those "aha" moments are so amazing. Thank you, Jesus. We are praying that God will soon send you a baby (or babies!). You and JC will be SUCH amazing parents. We love and miss you both!!
