Prepare your taste buds

Arwen Mosher over at Faith and Family Live (do y'all love that site as much as I do??) posted the following question:

If you’ve had success with fruit salad, can you help me? I’d appreciate any recipes and/or tips you can give!

Below is my reply. After spending time typing it all out, I thought- why not share it with you?

***PREPARE TO BE BLOWN AWAY!!!***

Disclaimer- I did not make up this recipe, it came from the geniuses at Cooks Illustrated. But I was smart enough to steal it and make it when company comes over!!!! **Don’t be scared off by the long list of ingredients. If you want to be blown away- THIS is your salad!!!!

STRAWBERRIES AND GRAPES

WITH BALSAMIC AND

RED WINE REDUCTION

• 3/4 c balsamic vinegar (you can use a cheap one)
• 1/4 cup dry red wine
• 1/4 cup sugar
• pinch salt
• 3 whole cloves
• 1 T grated zest plus 1 T juice from one lemon
• 1/4 t vanilla extract
• 1 quart strawberries- hulled, and halved lengthwise (about 4 cups)
• 9 ounces large seedless red or black grapes, halved pole to pole (about 2 cups)

1. Simmer vinegar, wine, sugar, and salt over high heat until it is reduced to 1/4 cup- about 15 minutes. (MONITOR constantly) Off heat, add cloves, lemon zest and juice, and vanilla. Steep 1 minute to blend flavors, then strain.

2. Combine strawberries and grapes in a medium bowl. Pour warm dressing over fruit and toss to coat. Serve immediately or at room temperature, or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate up to four hours, and serve chilled.

NOTE: I thought this would be a simple copy and paste post.  OH NO.  The HTML tyrant erased the whole thing and made me start over, only to continue to throw errors at me.  BUT I DID IT.  I figured it out!  OK, Google figured it out.  Turns out, if you need to copy and paste something into blogger, you have to copy it in paste it from Word to Notepad first.

Somebody make this now that I've had to type and format this post THREE TIMES!!!

ENJOY!!!!!

Thanks for your courageous html efforts, Lauren--I'll try it soon! My fruit salad is super simple, but people always ask me what's in it. It's just your favorite combination of fruits (I like berries, apples and bananas) with a dressing of honey, lime juice and lime zest. No quantities. It's loosey goosey like that. So easy and delicious, and pretty with the little green zest ribbons dotting the fruit.

hmmmm, "little green zest ribbons"

I asked my mom for a zester for Christmas last week (I know a little early) but I've been feeling like my life needs little green zest ribbons sometimes
