Before & After

Our room needed a major re-do, but I had no inspiration, and no motivation to spend money.  But then, I stumbled upon this post by Small Treasures and found just the muse I was looking for!
When we registered before we married, I discovered my husband was very, very picky particular about what went on our bed.  We finally settled upon a duvet cover and it worked well for a while.  But it faded quickly, leaving behind a color that we did NOT agree upon! And the duvet cover itself always seemed to bunch and get baggy.

Several months ago I took off the cover and sent it to the dry cleaners.  Having spent a few months in Europe, it suddenly occurred to me- why use the cover at all???

So this is how I left it for months.  I liked the duvet- but the rest of it did not go and was rather sad and incomplete looking.  Then I read Small Treasure's post and felt inspired.  So as of Wednesday, THIS is our new look!!!!

-New Euro pillows and shams (navy- they kind of blend in with the bed in the picture)
-new regular shams- white
-new pillows for us
-throw pillows

What do you think?  I'm not naturally a style kind of girl- so I'm looking for affirmation here.  :)  If you think it's hideous...let me down easy.  Or lie.  :)  And make suggestions!

I think it looks really clean and finished- nice work, L! Our room needs a re-do, too.

Love the pillows! You did a great job- it looks like a bed out of a Pottery Barn catalog.

Affirmation affirmed! Ha! I LOVE white. I only buy white sheets and towels...then I don't have to worry about my all-time favorite cleaning product, aka, bleach, ruining them! Good bedding is a good thang! Enjoy!

Love it! Our room didn't feel finished until I added pillows to the bed, too. Great job, Laur'n-- so summery and fresh!

Very cute-I've been wanting to do Big pillows and a blanket at the bottom for a while now.

Love the room! Very modern and simple, which is totally my style!

I posted Ch 7 of Isabella's adoptoin story on my blog...and I also added a few more important details to some previous chapters. I would love to hear your comments.

It looks wonderful! You did a fantastic job. What gorgeous bones to work with too...great windows and a beautiful hardwood floor! (I love your crucifix too..besides the modern art I have to finish my husband and I have been antique-browsing for a beautiful crucifix.) As for suggestions, a seagrass area rug would look gorgeous on your floor. They're inexpensive and easy to care for. You could always try one out from PB or Restoration Hardware and see if you like it, return if you don't.

I think it's lovely! Very serene and classic, and reminds me of you. I love the seagrass rug suggestion, or maybe even a white (or navy?) bedskirt to finish out that spot at the bottom? (Or maybe it's there and I can't see it.)

I have this in yellow and white on backorder right now to redo our bedroom (that was never really "done" to begin with). We're moving from black and white to yellow! Can't wait!

(ummm...what's a seagrass rug? Is that a color or material?)

Also- I struggle with rugs. I NEED them for the noise- and think they're beautiful- but they cover up my beautiful floor! What's the balance here?

Jennifer- LOVE that spread you've ordered!!! In fact- I might get the green/blue for the guest bedroom- which also needs some work. I want to get something that will coordinate with Annie's quilt. :)

Oh my gosh, can I move in???? Wow, I love it!!

My dh and I finally bought a new bedding set and we are anxiously awaiting it. I don't think it will look nearly as stylish as yours, though!!!

BEAUTIFUL! I know what you mean, I don't always have the decoration eyes myself. I think the room looks great! You have a real home there!

I love this! I love personally love white bedding, towels, rugs slipcovers, everything. They are actually easier to clean because you can just bleach them and they look like new. Love those tie-up shades too! The whole thing looks classy!

I'm late, but I love it! Can you clean the duvet when it gets dirty?

I have the same problem with rugs and hardwoods. I never know the right balance.

Thanks everyone!!! I'm grinning at your feedback!

Ann- YES! You can wash it- though it'd be easier with an extra large washer. It takes forever to dry- but you can wash it! And thanks for understanding my dilimma with rugs! :)

I love it. We have a down comforter/duvet thing that also gets bunchy despite my use of these clip thingies that go inside at the corners of the comforter to hold them in place in the duvet.

We have used the comforter on its own at times as well. The only concern I have with that for you is...in light of your post today...with no cover on it, that comforter WILL get baby poop, baby spit up, baby pee, baby barf, etc on it. And then you're looking at dry cleaning if it's not easily washable at home.

Absolutely beautiful! Really do love it! We have had the same issues with our duvet but my precious German husband won't have it any other way...so I'm still trying to decide what to do with ours. Does this new cover stay on your duvet without sliding and bunching or is it a comforter? By the way, I love the white! Very clean and European. :)
