Luke 15 = Incredible!

Luke 15 begins with the Pharisees and scribes complaining, "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them."  Jesus responds by telling three parables.  You know them well, but have you ever looked at them in relation to each other?  I hadn't until I recently read about it in a commentary, and I was blown away!

The Parables:
  • Lost Sheep
  • Lost Coin
  • Lost Son
Each scene increases in the severity of loss:
  • 100 sheep - 1 sheep = 1% loss
  • 10 coins - 1 coin = 10% loss
  • 2 sons - 1 SON = 50% loss
Each scene shows how each person of the Trinity saves:
  • The lost sheep shows us that the Son seeks the lost as a Good Shepherd.
  • The lost coin shows us that the Holy Spirit seeks the lost as an illuminator.
  • The lost son shows us that the Father seeks the lost with open arms in returning.
"I tell you, there will be rejoicing among the angels of God over one sinner who repents!"  Luke 15:10

Yet another great insight on this chapter of Luke. My priest gave an AMAZING homily on the Prodigal Son last night. I'll be hearing it again today and I swear I might take notes so I can share all the good stuff on the blog!
