New Year's Resolution!

I love New Year's Resolutions!

In 2008 I learned to play chess.
In 2009 I learned German.
In 2010 I went to Confession monthly.

It's such a great opportunity to start something new!  And I just discovered what 2011's resolution will be.

Economics in One Lesson: The Shortest and Surest Way to Understand Basic EconomicsREAD and study Economics in One Easy Lesson by Henry Hazlitt.

GET EXCITED.  :)

I know you're not all jumping up and down, but I AM!!  I've had this book on my to-read list for a year and a half!  When we were in Germany, they had it on audio book, and what we listened to (before it was due back) was AMAZING.  I've applied the Broken Window Fallacy to so many situations- and that's just the first chapter!

But what's really motivated me is what I discovered today through Campaign for Liberty's website.  The Ludwig von Mises Institute hosts a video series with one video for each chapter.  Each video interviews various professors where they elaborate, explain and apply the lesson to the current times!

This is just the accountability I need to get this done!

Why should you care?

Because, believe it or not, ECONOMICS MATTERS.  It affects EVERYTHING.  And our politicians are driving our economic philosophy.  Whether Republicans or Democrats, they (nearly) all believe in the same economic policy- KEYNESIAN- which boils down to CENTRAL PLANNING.  The government has and seeks control of the supply, demand, resources, scarcity and allocation.

  • The price of cokes, beef or gas?  All affected by corn subsidies.
  • The interest rates on home, student loans, or savings accounts?  The Federal Reserve!
  • The purchasing power of your dollar?  Inflation, baby...the Fed again!
  • Who we're at war with and why?  Resources (among other things)  You may not be a military family, but you probably know one.  (At least you know us!)
  • Even endangered species can be saved by basic economics!
  • and so much more...
Want REAL change we can believe in?  Learn about AUSTRIAN Economics with me!  Join me, or follow along as I post what I learn!

(I'm hoping a particular brother of mine might be interested in this one... :))

I was just given 4 books related to Ludwig Von Mises's view on Economics by a friend. He actually went out of his way to order them for me (well, me and P) and have them delivered. 3 are more or less brochures (one is called "The Place of Economics in Learning" and the other is called "Why Austrian Economics Matters" -- both are from the Ludwig von Mises Institute). The book is called "The Concise Guide to Economics" Third Edition (also by the Ludwig Von Mises Institute) ... The other book is called Mises in America.

Is God telling me something here? I think so. I am going to start on them today:)

This sounds really neat and you have piqued my curiousity! I am going to check it out. I have never heard of that institute, but am going to wonder over there soon. I love that things like this are just a click away. Thanks for posting about this.
