The next morning my sister-in-law called me. She explained that she was half asleep when J's brother updated her on our situation. "Is it true," she asked, "Are you adopting a baby and naming her Gianna?" When I said yes she went on, "Lauren! I was at a women's retreat last weekend, and they had a relic of Saint Gianna there. I held it and prayed for your family!!!" Just a couple of days later, our adventure began.
So it was divinely confirmed...we were praying for Gianna.
A few days later, her birth-mother texted me and asked if her middle name could be "Sunshine". This name, while not our style, had personal meaning to her birth-parents. We love the meaning and knew Gianna would be a light to the world, so we suggested "Luce" as the Italian word for light. They loved it!
Gianna Luce!

So perfect!!!
Crying! So beautiful! God provides everything, every little detail.
I love hearing how kids got their names. Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful story....and what an absolutely adorable girl. She is absolutely beautiful.
I love it! Isaiah was going to be Gianna if he was a girl. Bella even called the baby Gigi before he was born.
I love her middle name too. She is already a light to the world! What a precious baby!
Lauren, I began following your blog through my dear friend, Erika J.! I've loved sharing in your two sweet girls as we have two girls, also, - and I LOVE that both of your girls have meaningful names. Our littlest one was named after "light" too - just like your Gianna! :)
Beautiful! Tears of joy for you!
Such a beautiful. Ame and I LOVE the story behind the name! A miracle through St. Gianna!
It's so neat that her birth parents gave you the middle name ... Something she will always carry with her ... We did that too!
What a nice story..thanks for sharing. It was definitely a God inspired moment.
I love it, and I love her smile!
what a beautiful story and I love her two names so much more as a result!! She is uber precious.
Love this story! Amazing! And it's so good to hear name stories - we're in the process of trying to name this little guy.
Those big brown eyes are gorgeous!! And I just love seeing another tangible example of God's plan for your life as a Mama. Hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day. :-)
So special. I love that the birth parents had a voice in the process and that you were able to agree on something that was beautiful and meaningful to everyone. The Lord just worked everything out, didn't he?! Wish I could kiss that sweet, sweet face!!
What a sweet story! Thanks for sharing. I love your bright, sunshiny smile, sweet Gianna!
Love,
Annie
A beautiful name to match and equally beautiful story!
That is such a beautiful story! I recently adopted a little girl and she is the light of my life. I found a lot of helpful information about raising an adopted child at http://onlineceucredit.com/edu/social-work-ceus-cpa. I hope this is helpful. I wish you and your family all the best.
