A date with Abigail's Hair

I've been gone forever.  Between traveling, Christmas and a cross-country move I just have't had the energy to blog!  To be more accurate, I've wanted to blog, but haven't had the energy to do all the "catch-up" posts that I want to write.  But rather than lament all the things I should have blogged, I'm going to dive in with my latest challenge: Abigail's hair.  I have two styles that I typically do- free hair and pig tails.  Free hair is my favorite- it looks so precious- she rocks the style- and doesn't take as long to do, but I pay the price the next day.  It doesn't hold up for two days and the detangling process is a nightmare for both of us.
Free hair: Look at these precious curls!  (and look how cute my Mom is!)
We normally style in pig tails.  It takes forever but holds up for a couple of days.
She thought I should dress up as a princess, too. :)
But I'm suffering major hair burn out.  Hair takes over my day three times a week.  Tuesdays and Thursdays and once on the weekend I bathe them both doing a co-wash (conditioner rinse) and then style.  It takes at least an hour.  AT LEAST. It takes over my morning and we can't get out.  I'm trapped in my own house twice a week!!!!

I've been wanting to learn more protective styles that will last more than a couple of days, but I've been so intimidated that I keep putting it off.  But tomorrow's the day.  J is going to watch Gianna for me and I'm going to set up the Dora DVD for Abigail.  I'm going to do the two-strand twists/Rosettes.  I've been studying it all week, bought my supplies today, and am READY to do this girl's hair!!!!

Wish me luck!

I was just wondering how you were doing! Can't wait to see the finished hairdo :). And I'd love to hear all about the move!

Once you get the hang of the twists, they will go super fast. And I can usually get Anna`s to last at least a week if not two!

Oh my goodness have your girls gotten big! In the picture of "princesses" Abigail looks like such a big girl. And were did baby Gianna go? They are such beautiful girls!!

Hair burn out...I totally get that. By the time I take Bella's braids out, co-wash, detangle and restyle her hair 4 hours are gone...and that's when I do something like box braids. You don't even want to know how long it takes when I venture down the path of cornrows. The poor girl is "forced" to wear some fuzzy styles sometimes as I refuse to do her hair weekly. (They say that less manipulation reduces breakage, right???!!! That's what I'm going with.) It looks like you've found a good resource. I love CHVC! I'm sure you've probably found these videos as well (http://www.youtube.com/user/Katelynylyn). She doesn't post anymore, but I learned to cornrow from one of her videos.

Thanks again for posting! I can't wait to see how Abigail's hair turns out.

Good to hear from you! The girls are so adorable! Abigail's hair looks exactly like E's (except I just chop his short when it starts to get crazy!) so I can only imagine! Best wishes with the new do...post pics when you can! :) :)

I have been dying for an update from you!!
Because I am working 50 hours a week, I can't do Bella's hair anymore. I take her to get her hair in corn rows once a month and it lasts (looks good for the 3-4 weeks). It does take 2+ hours to take out, but it that is ONCE a month. We then do the wash, conditioner and detangling right before we get it done again....leaving it out to "rest her parts" for 1-2 days.
We have spray conditioner specifically for hair in protective styles (corn rows). It is all natural and keeps her hair from moisture loss on a daily basis.
Her hair grows about an inch or more a month now!!
