Munich- Getting Started

Wilkommen aus Munchen! We had so much fun in Munich! Check out our modern hotel...

I got my international driver's license so I could help drive, but alas I cannot drive a standard! (Esp. in hilly Germany! Yikes!) The lanes are so narrow and parking spaces so small that a smart car was actually beginning to look attractive! (Never thought I'd see that day!) Poor JC got stuck in this spot. I got out to help him, and ended up taking pictures! (He was not pleased...oops... :))

Here is the main square of the city, which houses the Neues Rathaus (New Cityhall) and Altes Rathaus (Old Cityhall!). Isn't it cool? In actuality, the Old is newer than the New because of damage done during the wars. The Neues Rathaus has a glockenspiel that we would come back to see later.
Here's the Altes Rathaus. We met here in the Marianplatz for our guided tour. Unfortunately, the neo-nazis were having a meeting of their own- demonstrating right there in the square. It was so unsettling and upsetting to here their yelling and cheers. It had such a strong presence of evil. I just clung to JC's hand and prayed my way through it. It made me sick. Most Germans felt the same way and were either ignoring it or trying to overcome it by blowing whistles and yelling so they could not be heard. It made me start thinking- if this is the far extreme right, and the far extreme left is also violence and hatred- then I don't want to be on that spectrum at all!
The Marianplatz is named Mary's Square for a reason. Here's the Blessed Mother! It was moved here in 1638 from its original location in Frauenkirche out of thanks that the Swedes didn't sack the town during their occupation.

Matt's Jetta is a standard, and he forced me to learn to drive it. I stink, especially given how HILLY Wimberley and the surrounding areas are. The whole thing is always very against my will, but I'm learning! :) I've made it about 10-15 miles before killing it.
