Thursday morning, Stephen, Jordan, JC and I were playing "Ticket to Ride" and we noticed a few snow flakes coming down. They continued- and the wind picked up- and the next thing we knew it was a regular blizzard! The snow was gorgeous and forced us to relax and stay home.
Jordan, who's now working at the movie theater, had to venture out into the weather, but soon after arriving they sent him home. We were on pins and needles and praying for his safety, and at last he made it home. It was so fabulous that he got to spend Christmas eve with us. It wouldn't have been the same without him. And...we got to play more of the train-game! :)
We got ready and tried to attend Christmas Eve Mass, as is our tradition, but the snow did not allow for this! I hope the following story stays fresh in my mind forever, as it makes me laugh so hard just thinking of it.
Mom was very proud that she had (my) snow-boots to wear. She insisted on driving her van, as it would fit all of us and "I know my car best." So we all piled in with me in the very back. There was a 3-4 foot snowdrift directly behind the van, so my brothers told her to just gun it and plow over the snow. She did...until she lost her nerve and hit the brakes. Alas- we were now IN the snow-drift. We could not move forward. We could not move backward. No problem, Mom yells, "I've got snow boots! I'll push!" and proceeded to JUMP out of the car, run to the rear, and begin to push. The sight of my Mom RIGHT behind my head, pushing the van full of young people, including 3 strong men, is a sight I will never forget! JC was trying to quickly get out of his suit jacket and into a regular coat to help. Stephen jumped in the driver's seat. Jordan and I were laughing too hard to move. JC eventually got out and with one big push from the two of them, they got us back into the garage. We snapped a few pics and put on the pjs for a game of trains! It was just wonderful!
