I'll add that we have a marriage verse- obviously the name of the blog! We try to fashion our marriage around that and incorporate that into our prayers. We're praying over a verse for our family as well. Like Kate, we have a verse for our baby girl, and for our God-children as well. Praying Scripture over a person is a powerful blessing!!!
My favorite daily tradition is that J blesses both of us before he leaves for work in the morning. He traces the sign of the cross on our foreheads- and usually follows it with a kiss! (I love forehead kisses. They're so sweet!) I feel protected, blessed and loved when he blesses us in this way!
Do you have any favorite family traditions of blessing?

I'm finding myself with a little bit of jealousy creeping in. This is awesome-I will copy :)
Awww! I love the blessing tradition and the verse tradition!! I heart family traditions and want to be more purposeful about incorporating them into our family life. Probably my favorite right now is bed time routine and dates when Daddy comes home. Love you!
My husband blesses me every night using Numbers 6:24-26(I have it written on my sidebar). Love it! He's done is so long, that I think I automatically get sleepy now whenever I hear that verse.
Love her traditions. I'll have to show you my new Jesse tree ornaments when I finish them. Hers are way cuter, but I don't have kids in the house so I did small ones. Almost finished!
Is it bad to steal traditions? ;) I love the family verse idea, and loved your friend's Thanksgiving Book idea! I'm definitely stealing both of those! :)
At Christmas, I set up one of those fake little Christmas trees (on a table) with lights, but instead of decorating it with ornaments, I write the names of 25 people or families, each on a separate small white piece of paper. That gets rolled up into a scroll with a red ribbon tied to hold it together, and taped onto a branch of the tree. Each day during Advent we pick one name off the tree (usually at dinner time) to pray for that family/person.
My mom initiated that tradition in our household, so I've carried it with me into my family and it's especially fun for a little kid to get to pick the name at dinnertime.
My brother does that too his 3 children too - I love that your family does it also! such a sweet thing to do :) No traditions like that here, but we may steal this idea!
So beautiful! I love that tradition! (And Ann's husband's blessing has always made me awestruck!)
Hmm, our tradition over here is the Advent wreath. It's the one thing we do without fail, on Sundays during Advent. We light the candle(s) and pray Advent prayers together.
I need more traditions!
Thank you so much for sharing, Lauren! We do not have any family traditions. I am so excited to start some though! I am very lucky to have you as a friend. I have learned so much!
AWESOME! :) I have a book called "A Treasure Chest of Traditions For Catholic Families." It's by Monica McConkey, and it is so full of great ideas!! :) I highly recommend it!
I also love the image of J blessing you and Abigail! So beautiful!!
so sweet! thanks for sharing. I think we're going to do the verse tradition for our family too; what a good idea!
Wow. This has given me something to think about. You and Ann - have husbands that rock. Mine just runs out the door before someone smears something on him! Kisses to that beautiful baby girl...kisses and snuggles.
We don't have many, but I'm always looking for more. So far here are our bests:
-Donuts after church on Sundays! This is a big favorite. Very unhealthy, but as someone pointed out to me once: our kids will remember doing this forever!
-Sunday family days! This might seem like a no-brainer, but I've realized that making Sundays a day for family in and of itself is a tradition that not everyone takes part in. Whether it's playing games, doing puzzles, playing outside or doing nothing, on Sundays we are always spending time together from the time we get up to go to church until bedtime. I hope that this makes an impact on them and that they treasure the family time we have on Sundays for life.
-During Advent we light the appropriate candle(s) every night and read the daily reflection/reading after dinnertime. The girls at this stage just love lighting the candles each night. (we do something similar each night during Lent)
- This year I wanted to start an Advent tree that we decorate in purples and pinks. Then, put on the Christmas ornaments on Christmas Eve (vice the day after Thanksgiving--how anti-climatic!). However, we are in moving transition and in the apartment, we'll be lucky to get any decor up!
--Ideas I'm stealing:)-- Jesse tree, and all the book/journal ideas starting with a Thanksgiving book if I can get it together for this year!
Thanks L for sharing great ideas before M goes to school we pray and ready a story from her Bible and bed time is a precious time too.
We always traced the sign of the cross on their foreheads and said, "God bless my sweet blessing," and then kissed their foreheads. :-)
