Top Ten Worthless Baby Items! :)

Absolutely could not live without my Moby wrap !!! I love love love getting to cuddle with Abigail all day long. I wear her for the majority of her naps during the day. (Such a tease, I know! Abigail's so close, but you can't see her!) |
 |
| When I'm not wearing her, she's in the swing! Another loan from another friend, I love this swing. There were nights that Abigail slept part of the night in here while I slept on the couch. She is so happy in this swing! |
 |
Being a bottle-feeding Mama, I love my bottle washing equipment!
Seriously- the people who created this are geniuses! |
 |
Oh the wonderful Boppy!
A gift from my sweet brother!
Need I explain the Boppy? |
 |
From the same friend as the Moby wrap. (I love you, Maria!!!)
We keep this in the kitchen and call it the magical chair.
It's as if she knows her bottle is coming!
It's also great to have her in here while I cook dinner.
I can't wear her while I"m cooking and the swing is in the living room.
She likes to watch me sing and dance around the kitchen! |
 |
I have five swaddles.
FIVE.
That's how great they are!
OK, I bought a package of two, my cousin sent me two, and my friend loaned me one.
One I keep in the car- the others I rotate pretty frequently!
She sleeps SO WELL in this thing. We love our "Baby Burrito!" |
 |
I LOVE THIS BOOK !!!!!
This book saved Abigail from colic. It gave us coping methods and made me feel like a much better Mommy!
Thank you, Lisa, for sending me this book! |

Flashcards that I made from Dr. Sears' The Vaccine Book .
(I would take a picture of the book, but I loaned it out!)
This book is a fabulous resource. It is objective and provides information about each vaccine. It allows you to make your own decision, based on the disease, ingredients, side effects, and more. I felt empowered instead of scared and feel good about the decisions we're making for Abigail.
(and yes...I made flashcards. I wanted to be SURE I knew what I was talking about before we went to the doctor to make our case. J joked that it felt like we were studying for a medical school exam!) |
 |
A mobile!!
I thought this was a novelty item at first, but requested it anyway because I think it's so cute, but it has turned out to be wonderful! I can place Abigail in the crib with the mobile on long enough for me to use the restroom or clean a poopy diaper! She loves to stare at the animals. |
 |
A sound machine!
I swore I'd never get one. I, myself, am easily conditioned to "need" noises to sleep, and I did not want to impose this conditioning upon my child. Until I found myself vacuuming in the dark at 3 am because it was the only thing that would calm her down... Or rocking back and forth with a hair drier in one hand until she was really asleep.
Thank you, Lord, for sound machines! Save the vacuum cleaners! :) |
There you have it! My top ten list!

Love the Vaccine research! I'm always shocked by the number of parents who vaccinate and do no research at all on the vaccines or the disease they are suppose to prevent.
Some other great books include:
Vaccine Safety Manual
and
Make an Informed Vaccine Decision
Thanks for the list! I've heard nothing bu good things about he Moby and Swaddle Blankets. I can't wait to use them on Mary-Grace!
A small word of advice on mobiles. My sister had an experience with both of her boys where she came into their room and they were practically hanging from the thing. So, when she can sit up or can pull herself up it might be a good idea to take it down for awhile. I can imagine hanging from them might not be safe. :) My sister did say that it was pretty funny looking though.
And the white noise thing. I sleep with it. I didn't want to condition MG to it either. However, I've heard they are great so I'm leaning towards getting one too.
Aw, love all of this!! So exciting! Her crib/room looks adorable, btw. And I remember when my first nephew was born we discovered the joy of the little "music machine". He could go to sleep as long as the little melody was playing. He's 6 now and does not need any noise to go to sleep so I don't think it necessarily conditions them long-term.
Wow! Thanks for the list, this is great.
LOVE the swing, and used it for many a nap time when nothing else was working in some of the earlier weeks. Both kids lost interest around 4 months, but that was good, because my kiddos both LOVED to roll all over the floor. Put that girl down on the ground for a while and give your back a break! :)
The bottle washer is great as kids get older-- I use it for child-sized spoons/forks/knives and to hold pacifiers and sippy cup valves.
Ditto on the mobile being temporary. You can get around 5 months out of it until it becomes unsafe when kids start sitting and perhaps pulling up.
C was big on our "Aquarium" music thing, but H could care less. What a typical boy.
And I could wax on forever about the Boppy. It is so easy to breastfeed with it, and for others to hold newborn/very young kids. And then it's great to prop them up when they start sitting!
Good list!
Thanks for the warning, ladies. Too funny about your nephews, Karen! Of course I'll ditch the mobile when the time is right. That's part of why I thought it was such a novelty- it's short use- but boy, she loves it!!!
Lisa- no back worries here! The Moby is SOOOOOOO comfortable!!!! And Abigail gets plenty of time on her back and belly before/after feedings, so don't you be concerned about her development! I love to hold my baby and she loves to be held- a perfect match! :)
Thanks for the tips, Anonymous!
We've been given ALL of these as shower gifts!! Except a swing-which I plan to buy for a consignment store.
Love it! Many of my favorites are on your list. We also could not have lived without our Moby Wraps and Swaddles.
I love everything on your list, too!
(Check the Children of God for Life site on Ethical Vaccines for information on which vaccines come from aborted babies' cell lines - polio, Hep A, Rubella, and Chickenpox are the ones that spring to mind offhand.)
Thanks for sharing! I am just five weeks away from welcoming our little one, and I want to know all of the things other new moms find useful. :)
Is the Moby hard to get used to using? I have one, and I've tried to practice the wrap techniques -- they seem hard. :/
I hadn't thought of a sound machine, but that does sound like a good idea!
So you like the noise machine? I am considering trying one for Claire. What sounds does it make?

We are also a Moby-loving family. They are great! However, I've switched to the Ergo as it's much easier to get my "baby" in/out of now that she's bigger (almost 2).
Cathy- thanks for that info. I had heard about that and looked, but couldn't really find anything credible. Also- from what I've heard on Catholic Answers Live with Dr. Tad Pacholczyk, parents can use these vaccines b/c they're not cooperating with the original abortion. He suggests that if you receive the vaccine, do so under protest by writing to the company. Here's the link: http://catholicexchange.com/2009/10/23/122931/ I know there's a lot of debate about this. J and I aren't sure what we're going to do when it comes to some of those live viruses, but I'm really grateful for the information! Thank you VERY much!
Sarah- I had a GREAT teacher and found it very easy to pick up. No doubt it's a little annoying to put on, but worth it for the comfort and closeness. When I'm going out- I put on the Moby at home, then just take Abigail out of the carseat and slide her in the Moby when we arrive. There a are a ton of youtube videos to help, too. You'll love it!
Maria- oh great teacher of the Moby- we just use the white noise. And our machine isn't really loud enough. I want vacuum cleaner loud! :)
Char- I JUST wrote to Kaitlin about the Ergo! I think Abigail is going to request the Beco for Christmas. They both look fabulous- but I like that she can face out in the Beco.

Great comments! Thanks!
I must sleep with a fan....I love it! I know she is gonna need a noise machine or something... ;)
Your list is perfect. I live by swaddles (miracl.e blanket, hal.o sleep sack with the swaddle, etc), that exact swing-very worth the price since it is comfy and swings three different ways, the boppy is essential for nursing the first month too-I use it for all sorts of things, I passed on a mobile and regreted it, I have a baby K't.an sling and love it b/c it has awesome back support and baby support...I just couldn't agree more. I agree with this book, though I didn't know it existed. :) I have already recommended it to a friend.
[My son is nine months old.] We barely bought anything for him, and some of the things we were given weren't necessary [fully appreciated nonetheless]. I'm glad you can afford all of this! And if there's anyone reading this comment who think they might not be able to "swing" all this cash... don't worry - you don't need to. Go on the 3 L's: Library. Loaning. Lots of Loving!!!
Thanks Lauren!
Ashley- 3 are borrowed and 3 were gifts. We only bought the books, 2 of the swaddles and the dishwasher thing!
I completely agree to borrow, borrow, borrow...then beg! :)
Library for the books.
But you really do need the Moby and swing! And swaddle. :)
Thanks Lauren! You're right. It's like my mom always says, "Once you've seen the light you can't go back." It's like there were no pre-Moby and happy swinging baby days, right? :)
Enjoy your sweet little girl! We are all so happy for you!!!
Awesome post! I LOVE our Moby. JP loved the swing. We used the boppy constantly. Read the Vaccine book. We use a fan in both kids room for white noise.
I got an Ergo when JP was about 10 months and LOVED it until I got pregnant a month later and couldn't wear him for much longer. I will probably use the Moby for about 4 months until this baby is big enough to fit in the Ergo - they're both so comfortable!
I love all of the things you listed! :) WOOT WOOT!
Our baby days are probably over ...:( but what is still important is a pack of diapers bother up and downstairs.Love the photos
These are all good but I am so addicted to sound machines. I went out and got one for the baby to come at Bed Bath and Beyond. What would we do without one in each bedroom?
They are 20 bucks there but with a 20 percent off coupons they end up a bit cheaper:)
Wanted to add that I have a white noise cd called "for crying out lo.ud" that you can buy online. I burned a friend's. It has vacuum cleaner, mommy heartbeat, restaurant noise, rain, waves, blow dryer noise-everything! Much safer than the real deal, and of course you can adjust the volume :)
GOOD to know, WR! THANKS!
