Abigail is doing so great! We went back for a post-op appointment today and the doctor said she looks fantastic. She has had wonderful care; the doctors and nurses have gone above and beyond for her. We had a lovely road trip. The leaves were changing colors and the scenery is gorgeous where we were. After our appointment, we tried to find a park so Abigail could play while J took a nap in the car. There was a Presbyterian Church and School across from the hospital and we figured they would have a playground. We were confused at how crowded the parking lot was, but we kept driving around and around the building, until...we saw they were having their fall festival!!!! PERFECT!!!! Abigail ran around for an entire hour laughing. (I couldn't believe how fast she was!) We had a ball! We drove back home and J and I had great conversation about our future home and everything it will entail (chickens, bees, rabbits...). Her pediatrician called to check on her and see how our appointment went. Wasn't that thoughtful! We're back home tonight and get to sleep in our own beds!
On the other hand... We were not planning on driving up for this appointment today. Abigail's stitches came out the same day as the surgery- right after we got home. For two weeks we've been battling the incision to keep it closed, keep her hands off of it, and clear up the infection that appeared on day 2. We've been to the doctor three times and the ER once. After sending the surgeon pictures yesterday, he told us to come up today. I was up very late finishing laundry (my normal Tuesday chore) and baking bread (which had to be baked since I had started soaking the grains earlier.) When the doctor came in to see Abigail, we took off the bandage and the incision looked much better. So we drove five hours each way to hear him say, "Looks good. Keep doing what you're doing."
Good thing I'm focusing on being positive this week!!! God's giving me many opportunities to practice! ツ "Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about these things!!!" Philippians 4:8
I'm so happy that the drive was a good time to talk-- I've found that with little ones, sometimes those drives (especially if kids are asleep) are the most "romantic" in terms of being about to dream with your husband. We used to do that all the time, out-loud, before we got married and then in our all-too-brief honeymoon/no-kids phase. I'm also glad that J got a NAP (!!) while you and Abigail got to play-- how FUN!!
That really stinks ... all the gas, money and time (10 hours !!!) that you spent just to hear the doctor say that. :( It is good that you're being positive, though! :) I'm glad you enjoyed the drive.
“Magnify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together.” summarizes the purpose and mission of our marriage and this blog. Through our marriage and family, we hope to magnify the Lord and bring glory to His name. We married in June of 2006 and thereafter began our journey of infertility and adoption. After three unsuccessful adoptions, we brought home our baby girl, Abigail Chiara, in September of 2010, followed by our precious girl, Gianna Luce, in November of 2011! This blog shares my heart, my life, and what I am learning.
