A couple of weeks ago we had one of those days. You know. On the phone with the doctor and insurance all morning, trips to Urgent Care and then the ER, lunch on the go, no naps, J got home late so dinner was on our own, and then...the bedtime drama. As I sat and tried to get Abigail to sleep, I found my thoughts derailing. "What a wasted day! I didn't accomplish anything today! I didn't get ANY time to myself. Poor me..." And on and on. But suddenly I realized something! I stayed upbeat while we spent all that time waiting. I didn't lose my temper when the girls started throwing food on freshly clean floor. I somehow had the energy to persevere through bedtime. In short, I HAD STAYED PRESENT!!! This day wasn't wasted; it wasn't a failure of a day, it was a huge success! It wasn't so much about what I did, but how I did it!
Thanks for letting me share my success story!

Thank you! I needed to read this today.
BIG SUCCESS!
Won't it be funny if in heaven, we see all the stuff we're excited about (look I wrote a book for you!)--not such a big accomplishment--but something minor (I didn't impatient during the long wait in a grocery store line with a tired toddler) gets us a huge High Five from Jesus. All about doing little things with great love!
Go Lauren!
Yeah for you! Sharing your story is a great reminder for me to strive to "be there" and not get so caught up in my mental to-do list.
This is super encouraging, Lauren. Love you.
Yay!!! And those girls - oh my are they adorable!!!

What a great post, Lauren! Great reminder. I needed this. I do so enjoy your postings and have missed them! Your girls are too precious and I am so so SO glad I got to meet them.
You are an encouragement for me with your success! And your girls are ADORABLE! <3
Congratulations! Staying present is really hard: well done.
Your girls are just so adorably precious.
Congrats! Sounds like a very successful day to me :).
They are so cute! And you know, I'm so I read this post, because sometimes I think I have the ONLY child in the world who pushes the plate away or throws food on the ground (the same food, mind you that he LOVED yesterday)...so thank you for writing this!! It is hard to stay present I ALWAYS need a reminder of this! :)
Love this post! I struggle with this too, especially since I am on call every other week and HAVE to carry the cell everywhere. Doesn't mean I have to be looking at it though! :)
Oh, and RE: freshly clean floor. Our golden retriever is a lifesaver there! The one day he was at the groomer's, I bent over 452 times to pick food up off the floor - I realized he deserves major credit for cleanup duties he performs.
