Abigail had her first hair cut today! Let me tell you how nervous I was! I, Ms. Frugal, decided to call the nicest salon in town. :) That's right, I made an appointment at the Aveda salon for two reasons: 1) I wanted an expert and 2) I wanted advice on natural products to use in her hair.
I was like a crazy mama on the phone talking to the manager to make the appointment. "I need someone who's good with babies AND biracial hair AND super curly hair!!!!" Right away she told me she had the girl for me- and she did! And turns out she only charges $14 for a haircut! Of course that does not include the PRODUCTS I was talked into buying! :)

WHAT I LEARNED:
- Lisa (Cheerfully Chaotic) had the brilliant idea to PRACTICE haircuts before we went. I put my half-apron on Abigail and would say, "comb, comb, comb, snip, snip, snip!" while combing and pretending to cut her hair. The plan was to have J give me a pretend haircut, but we never got around to that. Still- she seemed totally comfortable getting it cut. (Until the end when she was tired of sitting still.)
- COCONUT OIL DRIED OUT HER HAIR!!!! This was the big shocker. OIL dries out hair? WHAT???? I've noticed her hair has been dry since it's grown longer and started using conditioner again. The stylist confirmed that coconut oil is good for a dry scalp but does nothing for hair. This is when she talked me into expensive products curl prep (all natural moisturizer, detangler and and defrizzer) and a pomade (not 00% sure what this does, but she had me convinced...said it would give me killer pig-tails. I'm a sucker for cute pig-tails!)
We had such a fun, fun day. After her haircut we went shoe shopping for me. She was in such a great mood and drew a crowd with her dancing and giggling. She was super-go-with-the-flow while we ran errands and we were singing and dancing in the car while I drove home. On a whim, I put on "Sweet Caroline" and she joined me with the "bum, bum, bum's"!!! She was so cute back there! It was one of those mornings you want to lock in your memory and savor forever! What a blessing!!!
I love this girl!!!!

Oh so much fun!!! Love that sweet girl ;)
What a precious little girl! :) Love those pics!
This is so adorable. :)
Great!!! I need tO get those products now!! Abigail looks beautiful.
Interesting about the coconut oil and Abigail's hair. My Bella's hair loves, loves, loves it. It's the one thing that completely moisturizes it. I follow several natural black hair blogs and never once have any of these mom's had anything but praise for coconut oil. I guess it goes to show that everyones hair responds differently to different products.
BTW....Abigail is cute as ever in her new haircut!!!
Char! I know! I always heard amazing things, too, and it seemed fine for a while- but boy did it get dry. Who knows!!!
I thought I should clarify something. I do use conditioner (Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose) to co-wash Bella's hair once every couple weeks.
Awww, so cute!
DARLING! You're going to have to post a video of Abigail dancing for us - no fair that strangers at the mall get to ogle and we don't!
She is so beautiful!!! I can't believe how big she's getting...such a sweet little one!!!
Seriously that is a beautiful child. Oh my gosh!! And so stinking cute!!!!!
I am so happy that you did this!
Pomade will be great! She is so stinking cute! Mama too :)
So much fun!! I am impressed that she did so well in the big girl salon. :) before I started cutting the girls' hair myself, I was shelling out the bucks so that they could go to the kiddy salon and watch a cartoon to distract them and make them sit still! This was after trying the lady who cuts my hair first and it being a total disaster! Ha! Go Abigail!
So adorable!! And her haircut was cheaper than Jack's at Kids Kuts!!! I'll have to start making appointments at Aveda! Haha!
Beautiful Girl!!!!
What a beauty (and Mama's lookin' pretty hot, too...)!
Way to go on the $14 haircut... niiiiiice. :)
She is so beautiful. I am not surprised she drew a crowd.
Oh my gosh Abigail look adorable as always, but her new hair is precious!! SO glad you found a great hairdresser for her, she looks like she had fun while her hair was getting done probably from all the practice (what great advice that was!)
I can just imagine those pigtails now, can't wait!!!
What an awesome day and great memories, as you said. She looks great! And $14 def a steal. For my busy boy, I pay $14 too for the kids salon with the cars they sit in while they watch tv and get their hair cut! I tried all these cheaper places first and they only saved us a few bucks and were not good with kids. Lots of tears, struggles, and crooked bangs :) I think you made a smart move!
Sooooooooo adorable! Yay for a great mommy-daughter day :).
She's such a cutie pie! I loved to read about the big "First Haircut" ... so glad you found a good stylist with info. I have super curly hair and I can never seem to find a stylist with good advice, so I'm borrowing some of YOUR suggestions! :)
Sooo fun!!! Super cute haircut too!
What a fun day! Love her new haircut - it looks fantastic!
I know the issue with coconut oil is that it strengthens the proteins, which can cause breakage eventually (overuse, or not using it properly), but when I read about it, it was very confusing and most people didn't seem to have a problem with it. Glad you are finding things that work - I'm taking notes for our next adoption...if we end up with a little girl!
Oh my! She is so darn cute!
It looks like she and E have the same exact hair...thanks for the recommendations for hair products.
She is beautiful!!! Can't wait to see pig tails!!
Love it!! What a happy morning!
Abigail is SO beautiful! I love the way your face glows when you're with her!
Tooooooo fun! Glad it went well! She's too stinkin' cute! We HAVE to get our girls together!!!!!
What an incredibly fun memory! And naturally, she's adorable! (I'm running out of adjectives for her cuteness! It must be a real problem for you!)
Finally catching up on all your posts that I missed while on a blog break. I found the same thing with coconut oil and had to stop using it.
CUTE HAIR CUT ABIGAIL!!
