WHAT WORKED:
- FACE: Regular soap has not touched my face since Lent! If I don't have easy access to Dr. Bronner's baby mild soap, then I just use a wash cloth and water. A dab of coconut oil works as an excellent moisturizer. This has been SO great for my face! I love it!
- SUN CARE: I used the Johnson&Johnson baby daily face and body and didn't get a single sunburn this year. First time EVER!
- SHAMPOO: I rarely use shampoo- only if I 'm feeling like a good lather. Instead I use baking soda and it works awesome! I wash my hair every other day and love it! I use conditioner now instead of apple cider vinegar.
- DEODORANT: Yep. I stuck with my homemade deodorant! I spread a dash of coconut oil on my arms, then use a cotton ball to apply a mixture of 1 part baking soda and 3 parts corn starch. It works great! The day Gianna was released from the hospital was the first time in seven months that I wore commercial deodorant. It was a highly emotional day and I didnt' want to take any chances! It made me laugh that I made it through a hot coastal summer, but for that I wore deodorant!!! :)
- FOR LADIES ONLY: I have loved my reusable feminine product. I did discover a latex allergy and had to switch to the silicone type, but overall love it. I won't go back! Email me for more info!
WHAT DIDN'T WORK:
- LOTION: I'm still not using soap for my body, but did go back to lotion instead of coconut oil. I couldn't get enough coconut oil to keep my skin soft.
- APPLE CIDER VINEGAR: This was recommended to me as a conditioner, but it didn't work with my hair; it got very dry. I'm back to regular conditioner.
And one more...COD LIVER OIL!
After I began to take cod liver oil, I read that a large dose can heal cavities. I had just been diagnosed with a cavity and decided to put off treatment to see if the cod liver oil could work. It didn't. :( A few weeks ago I went to the dentist. I still had the cavity, but it was SO small that they didn't even numb me for the filling.
Did you read that? THEY DIDN'T USE NOVOCAIN.
I was on pins and needles, just waiting for them to hit a nerve, but all was well! It really was that small! AND for the first time in a decade, I didn't have any new cavities. I greatly attribute this to the cod liver oil and cutting back on sugar. The other huge benefit to cod liver oil, is that it has cleared up my skin! (I also attribute this to my new washing routine.) It makes sense, though. Cod liver oil is very high in vitamin A, as are acne-fighting drugs such as Retin-A and accutane. We will definitely continue taking our daily dose of cod liver oil!
Oh- and I used to put Abigail's in her bottle, but now that she is off the bottle I give it to her on a spoon. THE GIRL ASKS FOR MORE each time!!! She wants to lick the spoon clean! It is crazy!!! I'm so glad she takes it willingly!!

So...your #3 under what worked made me laugh out loud. I would have used deodorant on that day too.
I'm also with you on coconut oil alone not being enough for my skin. I do, however, love the shea butter mix in this post. http://mochamom-cherishmydaughter.blogspot.com/2010/01/mocha-girl-style-half-cornrow-half.html
Thanks for the update.
Praying you've had a joy-filled Gaudete Sunday.
I will be definitely trying some of your suggestions of what works (especially for my face, as I have bad acne) .. and am so amazed at the cod-liver-oil. I didn't think that tasted good.
ugh...i need to get clo for my face!
How does CLO work with breastfeeding? I think you have to be careful with Vitamin A levels and with the prenatal vitamin that is recommended while breastfeeding, I am just wondering how you don't end up with too much? I would love to know how to take it safely for the cavity prevention!
I agree with coconut oil nit being enough for my skin. Since I've had Mary-Grace it hasn't even been enough for my face. I've always had oily skin but now it is insanely dry. Info however keep a bit on my nightstand and rub it into my cuticles at night. It works awesome!
Also, where do you get you CLO? I want to get something worth buying.
I'm also going to email you. I've got a few questions. :)
Your dedication is amazing! I am so impressed!
The cod liver oil makes my skin like butter! You must work on your skin from the inside out. :) No OTC product will work like cod liver oil! I love it! :)
Chasing I take 1T a day.... ;) Talk about overdosing over here! LOL ;)
Coconut oil can be drying. You might try a different oil; grape seed, sweet almond, cocoa butter, avocado oil or as someone else mentioned shea butter.
Cod liver oil sounds pretty amazing! Where does one buy some of that magic stuff?!?
I sent you an email... I'm really curious about #5!
I've used coconut oil on my hands which was great... but it made my face really oily.
CLO is so good for you... I'm not as consistent as I should be taking it. I definitely prefer the pill format though. I'm impressed that Abigail likes it!
Coconut oil made my skin itchy and break out :( boo! I have pretty sensitive skin though, I've tried a lot of things and a lot of them don't work! I also have to use conditioner...I think the main problem is the water here though. It's bad!
Thanks for sharing this!
LOVE IT!! :) Have you tried mixing up your deo mixture? I premix mine, and I add some peppermint and thieves oil. :) It smells awesome, and I just use my fingers in the morning to rub the mixture under each arm. :)
I am not brave enough to go shampoo less! I am happy with my burts bees at the moment. :)
Merry Christmas to a darling Catholic family!!!!!
Hope all is well with you and your family. Missing your posts.
I am mixing up the deodorant now. Does your coconut oil stay liquid? I am sure mine will in the summer, but it is solid now. Love this post!
